Problem connecting to localhost in 7.4.2

I am setting up a postgres server on Redhat Fedora Core 2, and am
unable to connect via tcpip.
I have enabled tcpip_socket in postgresql.conf.
For testing prposes, I'm using trust for local and host 127.0.0.1 in
pg_hba.conf.
The command I am running is:
psql -h 127.0.0.1 nagios
Username is shawn
This works if I leave off the -h 127.0.0.1.
Attached is the strace for postmaster. The strace for psql is too big
for the email list, so it is posted at
http://pookie.dyndns.org/strace-psql.txt
Thank you in advance for your help.

I apologize if this gets posted twice, I sent it once before I was
signed up, and it hasn't appeared yet.

unable to connect via tcpip.
The trace looks like it's timing out while attempting to do a DNS
lookup on the client IP address (ie, 127.0.0.1). This suggests some
misconfiguration in your local DNS arrangements.

Perhaps your default firewall set up in FC2 is blocking 5432 to localhost?
What does your /sbin/iptables -L say?
